What drives crude oil prices: Supply OPEC. Crude oil production by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is an important factor that affects oil prices. This organization seeks to actively manage oil production in its member countries by setting production targets. In 2017, the daily production of crude oil by OPEC countries stood at some 39.4 million barrels. Saudi Arabia is by far the largest crude oil producer among OPEC members, responsible for almost 12 EIA forecasts OPEC crude oil production will rise to an average of 29.4 million b/d in 2021.
